KARMA 2: Comparison of KARMA 2 features in Korg M3 vs Korg OASYS
karma2.jpg

Both keyboards share a virtually identical implementation of KARMA 2, with only minor differences in the physical control surface layout and in the organization of KARMA-related pages in the COMBI and PROGRAM sections of each keyboard. Therefore, almost every task you can perform with KARMA 2 applies equally to both keyboard models, with only slight differences in the details of how you navigate to a particular page or control.

Korg OASYS

The internal implementation of KARMA is presently at KARMA 2.1 (within OS 1.3.x), which includes several new features such as:
* Selectable quantize windows for scene changes and module triggering
* The ability to interface with KARMA Oasys Software (available separately).
* 12 banks of User GEs (1536 User GE locations)

The KARMA Oasys Software is currently available from Karma-Lab and enables the deeper editing and creation of User GEs, which may then be loaded into new User GE banks in the OASYS. For example, you can edit a preset Drum GE that normally performs a fill (drum break) every 16 bars to instead perform a fill every 8 bars, and save this 8-bar version as a User Drum GE. It can then be used in the OASYS like any other GE, without needing to be connected to the computer and the KARMA Oasys Software.

The Korg OASYS shipped with 2048 GEs. 45 more GEs created for the M3 were released as part of the KARMA 2.1 update in OS 1.3, and show up in User GE Bank A.

Korg M3

The internal implementation of KARMA is presently at KARMA 2.1 (within OS 2.0.x), which includes several new features such as:
* Selectable quantize windows for scene changes and module triggering
* The ability to interface with KARMA M3 Software (available separately).
* 12 banks of User GEs (1536 User GE locations)

The KARMA M3 Software is currently available from Karma-Lab and enables the deeper editing and creation of User GEs, which may then be loaded into new User GE banks in the M3. For example, you can edit a preset Drum GE that normally performs a fill (drum break) every 16 bars to instead perform a fill every 8 bars, and save this 8-bar version as a User Drum GE. It can then be used in the M3 like any other GE, without needing to be connected to the computer and the KARMA M3 Software.

The control surface of the M3 has 4 physical KARMA SCENE switches instead of the 8 physical switches on the OASYS. You can still select all 8 scenes in each Module Control Layer (Master, A-D) through a method involving pressing the KARMA button twice.

The M3 shipped with the same 2048 GEs of the OASYS, and an additional 45 GEs created during the voicing, for a total of 2093 GEs.
