Administrators for the wiki can globally block an entire namespace (category) from being edited or discussed by anyone who isn't an admin or moderator for the wiki.
- The global block on editing is done in Manage Site > Permissions by choosing a category and clearing the edit, move/rename, and delete permissions from all four columns of the permissions table.
- The global block on discussions is done in Manage Site > Forum & discussion > Per page discussion by choosing a category and selecting the corresponding disable option.
Every category except for the sandbox: category and the eight product-oriented categories (korg-karma:, korg-m3:, karma-oasys:, etc.) are blocked in this manner. Only pages in these nine categories are normally open for editing and discussion by all members of the wiki.
But what if you need to block a specific page in one of these unblocked categories? For example, assume you're looking at the sitemap for an article category and notice that several related articles could be grouped together under a new "sub-category" page (such as the drum patterns and data management pages in the sitemap for the Korg M3 start page. If you create a new "sub-category" page like these, they still really belong to the korg-m3: category, so by default they could be edited and discussed by any member. But because this type of page is merely "structural" to help keep the sitemap more usable, you don't want normal members to edit or post discussion comments to it. Here's how you block edits and discussion posts on specific pages like these:
- At the bottom of the page, click +options > block.
- Select the Page blocked checkbox and click save. The page is now blocked from editing by anyone except for administrators and moderators.
- At the bottom of the page, click discuss. The discussion thread for the page appears.
- Directly beneath the white-colored thread area (which is probably empty at this point), click +more options > posting block.
- Select the Thread blocked checkbox and click save. The discussion thread for this page is now blocked from posts by anyone except for administrators and moderators.
