Note: A complete reference guide to all system default data is in Documents > Docs - Korg M3 > M3_Xpanded_Voice_Name_List.pdf.

Sound set PCG structure

All sound set PCG files other than the CLEAN.PCG sound set have the same structure so that they completely overwrite each other when loaded, but leave the contents of the CLEAN.PCG sound set intact when swapping other sound sets in an out of the M3.

  • The CLEAN.PCG sound set contains everything listed further below that isn't identified as user programs or user combis.
  • All other sound sets have the following structure, which completely overwrites the volatile "user" banks that are not used by the CLEAN.PCG sound set:
    • Program banks U-F and U-G
    • Combi banks U-B through U-D and U-F, U-G
    • Drum Kits U-A through U-G
    • Drum Track User Patterns

Program banks

System preload data

  • Banks I-A through I-E contain default system EDS programs
  • Bank I-F contains default system RADIAS programs (installed by the RADIAS OS)
  • Banks GM and g(d) contain default system GM EDS programs
  • Banks U-A through U-D contain default system EDS programs
    • U-D contains the default system EDS Vocoder programs (U-D032 through U-D063)
  • Bank U-E contains default system EDS programs that require PCM data

Korg-produced sound sets

  • U-D064 through U-D090 contains the V1 Piano programs that use EXB-PCM04
  • U-D091 through U-D122 contains the Pro Vintage Keys Collection by Jack Hotop

User programs

  • Banks U-F and U-G are volatile, reserved for use by sound sets that are loaded and cleared as needed

Combi banks

System preload data

  • Banks I-A through I-C contain default system general combis
  • Banks I-D, I-E, and I-G are empty but reserved for future system use
  • Bank U-E contains 32 default system combis that use PCM data (future PCM expansions will likey use the remaining slots)

Korg-produced sound sets

Karma-Lab sound sets

  • Bank U-A contains 32 combis from the Karma-Lab Catalyst sound set (This is loaded as part of CLEAN.PCG and originally installed from CAT1_M3.PCG)

User combis

  • Banks U-B through U-D and U-F through U-G are volatile, reserved for use by sound sets that are loaded and cleared as needed

Drumkits

  • Drumkit Bank I-A [0-31 (Int)] contains the default system drum kits
  • Drumkit Banks U-A through U-G are volatile, reserved for use by sound sets that are loaded and cleared as needed

Drum Track User Patterns

  • The DT user patterns are always volatile, reserved for use by sound sets that are loaded and cleared as needed. However, even in the CLEAN.PCG sound set, there is a single DT user pattern called TechNO in the first slot, because if the DT user pattern bank is completely empty you cannot actually save the DT user pattern bank to a PCG file.
